Preparation shaped around you
We discuss what matters to you before filming. I prepare questions around those priorities, with room for memories that emerge during the interview. You can pause, skip a subject or take a break.
About Your Life, Filmed
A personal documentary filmmaker serving Lake County, IL
I record life stories through face-to-face conversations at home. From preparing the questions to editing the film, you work with the same filmmaker throughout.
The reason for the work
A life story includes the way you tell it.
A photograph can show a place. Hearing the person describe it adds the details they remember, the names they use and the meaning it holds for them. A documentary preserves that voice alongside the events of a life.
You do not need a public profile or a famous career. Moving to a new country, raising a family, serving in the military, building a business or finding your own way can each be the starting point for a film.

A conversation with a filmmaker, in a familiar place.
One person behind the production
I operate the cameras, lighting and sound, guide the conversation and edit the film. Short Documentary uses one camera angle. Signature and Extended Documentary include two angles of the same interview.
Your own voice leads the film
Selected photographs and home movies help viewers follow your story. I connect the chapters in the edit, keeping your account of the people and experiences that shaped your life at the center.
Personal histories
The story can be yours, or someone you love.
You can commission a film about your own experiences, arrange a parent’s biography, record military service memories or bring several family perspectives together. Couples, milestones and founder stories have their own preparation needs, which we discuss before agreeing on the scope.
Each package can focus on one person. A longer documentary provides more space for chapters and context; it does not require a larger cast.
Privacy and permission
You decide what becomes public.
Drafts and delivery are private. Your film, interview and personal materials are not used in a portfolio, advertisement, festival or social post without a separate written release.
Before filming, we discuss sensitive topics and choose a review contact. Your project agreement sets out viewing rights, deliverables and the review process.
