Preparing together

A timeline can help. It doesn’t have to be complete.

Bring a few dates, names or photographs if you have them. We use those as conversation prompts rather than asking you to recite a script. Let us know about any access, hearing or scheduling needs before the filming day.

Planning your veteran life story film

Do I need combat experience to make a veteran documentary?

No. Your film can explore training, friendships, daily service, overseas assignments, family life or the transition to civilian life. You decide which experiences belong in the documentary.

Can I leave particular experiences out?

Yes. During preparation we discuss the themes you want to cover and any topics you want to avoid. You can pause or decline a question during the interview. The film is not a requirement to disclose painful or private experiences.

Can photographs and service keepsakes be included?

Yes. We can discuss photographs, letters, medals and other materials that add context to your interview. Package allowances and any scanning or specialist transfer work are confirmed before booking. Only materials you have permission to use are included.

Is this an official military or historical archive project?

No. Your Life, Filmed is an independent documentary filmmaking service. The project creates a film for you and your family; it does not imply military endorsement or automatic submission to a public archive.

At-home filming throughout Lake County.
