A founder’s personal account
Explain the decisions behind the business history.
A company timeline can name its opening date and major changes. The founder can explain what led to those moments: how they learned the work, who supported them, what they risked and how their responsibilities affected life at home.
We prepare questions around that personal experience. The finished biography can help children, grandchildren and family members understand the person’s work in the context of a whole life.
If the story includes several generations of the family beyond the business, consider a family history documentary. We can discuss where the emphasis belongs before choosing a package.
Define who the film is for.
The published packages include personal family viewing and sharing rights. Tell us at the beginning if you also want a film for a company website, public event, recruitment or advertising.
Commercial uses, permissions and any additional deliverables need to be discussed in the proposal. They are not automatically included in a personal founder biography.
Preparing a business founder interview
Focus the interview on experiences only the founder can explain.
We use a story map to organize the conversation. The questions are tailored to the person and the family’s interests, with no answers to memorize.
Decisions and setbacks
Which choices changed the direction of the business? What did difficult periods teach them? These accounts can give context to the achievements the family already knows.
Family and succession
How did work shape family routines? What did relatives contribute? If another generation joined the business, what did each person need to learn about working together?

Connect the interview with relevant photographs and details.
An early workplace photograph, a familiar tool or an image of the first team can help explain a story. We select supporting materials according to the film’s focus and the archive allowance of the chosen package.
Film at home or discuss a workplace setting
A home interview offers a personal setting for a founder’s biography. If a workplace would add useful context, we discuss permission, access, background sound and practical filming conditions before including it in the schedule.
Agree on sensitive subjects during preparation
Identify information that should remain outside the film and any materials that need permission to use. Public-facing plans or particular confidentiality requirements should be raised before booking, so the intended use is clear.

What does a family business founder film cover?
The film records the founder’s personal experience of starting or leading the business: their background, early decisions, important relationships, setbacks, working life and values. Family photographs and relevant materials can support the interview within the chosen package’s allowance.
Is this a corporate promotional video?
The published service is a personal life story documentary with family viewing and sharing rights. Advertising, recruitment campaigns, paid media and other commercial uses are not automatically included. Describe the intended audience and any public use before the proposal so the scope and rights can be discussed.
Can a successor or another family member be interviewed?
Yes. Signature Life Film includes up to two interview participants, and Family Documentary includes up to five. A second perspective can explain how the business affected family life or how its responsibilities passed between generations.
Can the interview happen at the business?
We usually film at home and can discuss another private Lake County location. A workplace needs to be assessed for permission, access, sound, lighting and the production schedule before it is included. Location limits depend on the chosen package.
Do you research company records or provide genealogy services?
Story preparation uses the information and relevant family materials discussed during discovery. The published packages do not promise specialist genealogy, historical verification or a comprehensive audit of company records. Tell us what research you expect before booking so that work can be addressed explicitly.
How is a founder interview kept private?
Drafts and delivery are private, and public use of the film or footage requires a separate written release. Explain any sensitive subjects or specific confidentiality needs before booking so they can be discussed in the agreement. We do not assume that private family filming authorizes business promotion.
