Your Life, Filmed creates family documentaries through personal, face-to-face interviews at home in Vernon Hills. We guide the conversation, record professional picture and sound, and edit family photographs and first-person memories into a life-story film for your family.

Plan your family film
Tell us which room your parent or relative prefers, whether there are stairs and when the house is usually quiet. A comfortable chair and a space where conversation can be heard clearly are a useful starting point. We discuss the setup and interview plan beforehand; your relative does not need to prepare a speech or memorize answers.
For a film centered on one person, choose a few subjects that deserve time: childhood, a relationship, work or raising a family. If two people will contribute, let us know whether they are telling a shared story or adding separate memories. We confirm participants, filming time, locations and photographs in the proposal so the day has a realistic scope.

A move, a first home or the years spent raising children can become the starting point for a family documentary. Before filming, we discuss the person you would like to interview and the experiences you want to understand. You can bring a short list of questions, a few photographs or simply an idea of the years you want to cover.
Vernon Hills began with a 125-house subdivision before growing into the village families know today. If your family lived through part of that change, an early photograph of the house can lead to a useful question: what made you choose this place? The interview can then follow their own account of neighbors, work, family decisions and the life they built here.

Who first suggested moving, and what did each person hope would change? A moving-day photograph or a picture of an unfinished room can introduce the people and decisions behind an address. Include the places they lived before Vernon Hills so the film explains how they arrived here.
Ask what a typical weekday looked like when the children were young. Work schedules, school mornings and the relatives who helped can reveal more than a list of milestones. A life-story interview gives a parent time to describe choices their adult children may remember from a different perspective.
Set aside photographs with someone whose name or connection may be unfamiliar to younger relatives. Ask how they knew one another and what they did together. Names, relationships and approximate dates help the finished film connect a remembered voice with the right people and places.

Before we begin
Yes. Begin by asking whether they would like to take part and which subjects they feel comfortable discussing. We prepare questions and guide a conversation at home, with room to pause or take a break. Let us know about any practical needs when you inquire so we can discuss the interview before booking.
The $3,800 Story Portrait includes one interview subject at one Lake County location and a 15–20 minute finished film. The $7,500 Signature Life Film includes up to two interview participants and a 30–40 minute film. We can discuss whether you want one person’s biography or both people’s accounts of a shared life.
Start with a small selection and note who appears, when the picture was taken and why it matters. Do not remove fragile photographs from albums just to prepare for an inquiry. Printed photo scanning is an optional addition; albums, slides, damaged originals and extensive restoration are quoted separately. Each film package has its own allowance for photographs or clips.
Lake County travel is included in each film package, including filming at an agreed Vernon Hills home location. Additional locations depend on the selected package. Family interviews, photographs and films are not used in a public portfolio, advertising or social media without separate written permission; project handling and delivery are covered in the service agreement.
Lake County and nearby communities
We can discuss relatives in more than one community and confirm the locations included in your chosen film.
