We film life-story interviews in Mundelein homes, recording parents, grandparents and family members in conversation with a filmmaker. Your Life, Filmed combines these face-to-camera interviews with selected family photographs and home movies to create a documentary for private family viewing.

Plan your family film
When several relatives are involved, begin with a participant list and the days each person can be available. Choose one person to coordinate the family’s questions, photographs and feedback. Tell us if interviews would take place at more than one Mundelein or Lake County address. We can then match the filming schedule to the participant and location allowances in your package.
If you hope to have the film ready for a birthday, anniversary or retirement, share the date at your first enquiry. Editing takes place after filming, and the schedule also needs room for gathering family materials and reviewing the draft. A film for a milestone is a planned biography; photography or video coverage of the celebration itself would need a separate discussion.

A Mundelein life-story film can focus on one parent or bring together several family perspectives. Start by deciding whose account should lead the documentary and what you hope younger relatives will learn. A couple may want to explain how they met and raised their children. An adult child may want to ask a parent about their early life, work and the decisions that shaped the family.
We plan the questions with you, record the interviews at home and edit the material into a finished film with a clear beginning, middle and ending. The conversation remains central. Family photographs and suitable home-movie clips add context where they help explain a person, place or period. The scope is agreed in advance, including who participates, how many locations are included and which materials will be used.

The Mundelein Heritage Museum’s collection includes histories from Fremont Township and Diamond Lake as well as Mundelein. Family memories can cross those same place names. Ask where a relative actually lived, which school or community they knew and how they describe the area in older photographs. Their own experience provides the starting point.
A retirement date is only one part of a working life. Ask about the first job, the person who taught a trade, a difficult decision or how work fitted around raising children. For a family business, explain who did what and how responsibilities changed. These details give later generations a fuller account of the person.
Siblings and partners may remember a move, holiday or family tradition differently. A documentary can include those perspectives when additional interviews are part of the agreed scope. Prepare a few shared questions and let each person answer in their own words. Small differences in recollection can reveal what each family member noticed.
